So I work at an amusement park in Florida, and I’m happy with it. It’s helped a lot with self esteem issues and I can actually go to school this year. But I cannot get over this one supervisor I have. She was really nice when she trained me and helped when I was still getting used to working with so much money and people that generally do not speak English or even understand English. But one day a few months ago we had a really big crowd and I was closing the store alone. It’s hard to close on any night because we are a ride exit and people don’t always understand that they can walk around the shop instead of going through, so people will walk in while I close the flaps that act as walls at night and just stroll around and wait at the register while I make sure no one can hurt themselves on the flap I just let down. On a busy day, like any weekend in general, it takes a good thirty minutes to close the shop and begin stocking.

I’m usually extremely thorough when I close because I really need part-time and I want to make a good impression, but this one night I left a few minor things a bit messy. It was only pens not organized by animal and jewelry was flipped so you can see prices. Not usually a big deal. But the girl that opened made it sound as though I had knocked the whole jewery rack over and destroyed the place. My supervisor left a note for the assistant to retrain me how to close the shop. He was nice and agreed it was bull. No harm, except to my ego.

The other day I took an extra shift to save money for a Disney trip this summer and this supervisor had closed the night before, and was coming to close that day as well. I’m tired but I’m trying to stay peppy because opening is usually the slowest time to work, and I walk into the store to see popcorn on the floor, shirts out of place, jewelry flipped and tangled and hats on the floor. As I cleaned I built up my confidence to tell her that she had kind of left a big mess last night. Just as I’m about to say something as she’s putting in her till, she gets on my case about not putting two cases of water in our stock fridge because my back hurt. As I try to explain that my back was hurting my and a case of water is a little heavy to lift and get in the fridge (I’m a pretty small girl but usually I manage) she just keeps saying that they may have needed cold ones during the day and it has to be stocked. I get that, but there were about ten other cases in the fridge that two should not have been a big deal, especially since it is the off season and we do not get busy enough to need more than two cases of water at the end of the day. Of course I just smiled and said sorry because I need more hours more than I need to tell her she is ridiculous.

I guess it’s not a big problem, but it just really irks me that she can get away with leaving things a mess because she’s supervisor.
